Tools Overview

The Ricoh Developer Program™ offers a large collection of development tools suitable for all levels of developers. Tools can range from simple Command Sets to powerful Software Development Kits (SDKs). Access to development tools depends on the membership level to which developers subscribe: the higher the level the more tools are available for download. If you want to know more about RiDP™ development tools, just register for Basic membership, which is entirely free. You will then gain access to the member area of the web site where you will find detailed information about each tool, as well as additional documentation like brochures or white papers.

PCL Command Set

This supplement describes the language specification of the Ricoh specific PCL (Printer Control Language), to assist in the development of programs that utilize it. PCL (Ricoh specific) is based on the Printer Control Language (PCL) of Hewlett Packard. In order to accommodate the unique functionality of Ricoh devices, some commands have been expanded.

PJL Command Set

This supplement describes the language specification of the Printer Job Control Language known as PJL (Ricoh specific), to aid in the development of programs that use it. PJL (Ricoh specific) is based on the Printer Job Language (PJL) of Hewlett Packard. Some of the commands have been extended to address the unique functionality of Ricoh devices.

PostScript Local Operator

This supplement describes the language specification of PostScript Level 3 needed to write programs for use with Ricoh printers and network connected multifunctional products. It describes in detail the changes and additions made to Adobe Systems Incorporated PostScript 3 specification. This will allow for a more productive use of Ricoh devices when utilizing the PostScript printing language.

Private MIB Specification

This document describes the proprietary Ricoh private MIB (Management Information Base) implemented on Ricoh’s networked printers and multifunctional products. This information is exclusive to Ricoh networked devices and is not referenced in industry-recognized MIB standards.

Standard MIB Specification

Management Information Base (MIB) is a database related to network administration of connected print devices and has been implemented on Ricoh printers and multifunctional products. Normally, network-printing devices are referred to as agents and a network management application is called the manager. From the manager’s point of view, each print device is a separate resource or database of information managed via Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

Premier Membership

Premier Membership includes all tools from Basic Membership plus:

PC Fax API

This API is used to initiate fax transmissions from within your own fax applications. The PC Fax API requires the LAN Fax Driver - found at www.ricoh-support.com/downloads - to be installed on the same computing device the fax application resides on. The PC Fax Driver API supports Windows 95/98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP operating system platforms.

RPCS Driver API

The Ricoh Printing Command Stream (RPCS) driver is a high performance printer driver designed specifically for Ricoh printers and multifunctional products. The API for this powerful driver allows developers to invoke customized printing from directly within an application. This API supports Windows 95/98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP operating system platforms.

SmartDeviceMonitor API

Ricoh’s proprietary networked peripheral management software utility - SmartDeviceMonitor - allows for the discovery, configuration and monitoring of Ricoh printers and multifunctional products. The SmartDeviceMonitor API allows other application programs to obtain status and other information about Ricoh peripheral devices on the network. The SmartDeviceMonitor API supports Windows 95/98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP operating system platforms. For details on SmartDeviceMonitor for Admin/Client, go to www.ricoh-europe.com/products.

PrintObserver SDK

PrintObserver is a Ricoh client/server printer monitoring service that supports all printers that have the SNMP standard printer MIB implemented. This API can be used to contact POSS (PrintObserver Status Server) to collect various sorts of printer information. A running POSS server is required.

Device Browser

The Device Browser is a Web browser that operates on a device. It obtains an HTML file from a server and displays the data on the operation panel of the device.

Premier Plus Membership

Premier Plus Membership includes all tools from Premier Membership plus:

GlobalScan SDK

The GlobalScan SDK Toolkit enables Developers to plug into Ricoh multifunctional devices and GlobalScan Server Software using common development languages and methods. Ricoh’s GlobalScan supercharges network scanning using Ricoh Multifunctional systems and enables efficient electronic document distribution across the enterprise.

Device SDK Type-J (SDK/J)

Ricoh’s Device SDK Type-J (SDK/J) is a state-of-the-art application development environment that allows for the creation of customized embedded applications that run on Ricoh Multifunction Products and Laser Printers. SDK/J is based on the Java ME technology and controls most aspects of device operation, including the control panel, and core capabilities such as printing, scanning, faxing and saving files.
