Ricoh and Genius Bytes receive ‘Duke's Choice Award’ at JavaOne Conference

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, June 2006 -- Ricoh Europe B.V. together with Genius Bytes, a member of the Ricoh Developer Program™, has won the prestigious 2006 Duke's Choice Award in the category ‘Secure Printing Services’. Every year, at the JavaOne Conference in San Francisco, Sun Microsystems, Inc., the creator of Java technology, recognizes the most innovative Java technology-based applications with this award.

The award in the category ‘Secure Printing Services’ has been attributed to Genius Bytes’ “Office P2P” application and Ricoh’s “Embedded Software Architecture™”.
Embedded Software Architecture is a development platform included in Ricoh Aficio™ devices that can host Java technology-based applications developed by third parties.

Office P2P is an application, which enables customers to send documents to each other from any internet-enabled source, as well as from printer to printer.   Office P2P represents a customisable application with enormous potential. Based on Java and JXTA (Sun Microsystem's peer-to-peer initiative) technology it empowers Ricoh Aficio™ devices to be some of the most intelligent in the industry.
This innovative solution has already been chosen by several main players in the automotive, banking and consultancy industry as a way of dramatically improving the efficiency of their workflows.

“Each year, the Duke's Choice Awards are given to Java™-based applications that are on the cutting edge of their field. The Ricoh and Genius Bytes submission truly captures the Power of Java™ technology – enabling more and more devices to communicate across the network to provide better  customization and meet customer requirements,” said Mark Herring, senior director of Java™ Brand Marketing at Sun Microsystems.
