Technische Universitat Berlin wins "Ricoh & the Sun Java™ Platform Powered by U!'' Programming Contest

To challenge young developers, Ricoh and Sun ran a Java™ platform programming contest among students at universities across Europe, in March and April 2005. With this European programming contest, Ricoh and co-sponsor Sun Microsystems challenged students to develop innovative Java™ technology based applications that run embedded on Ricoh Aficio™ laser printers and multifunctional products (MFPs). The competing applications could enter one of the two contest categories – best business application or best non-business application – and were judged through criteria such as innovation, quality or creativity.

The Winners

The Java™ Platform programming contest has reached its final stage. First, the national selection events took place with each country choosing its winner. In total 17 universities entered the Contest and the 120 participating students developed more than 50 fantastic applications.

On June 3rd, the national champions presented their prize-winning software and the selection of the overall best application took place. During a live award ceremony in Amsterdam, Grzegorz Lehmann & Thomas Strecker from the Technische Universitat Berlin, Germany were crowned as winners. No doubt they have enjoyed their well deserved trip to Sun’s JavaOne™ conference in San Francisco, California to the max!

At JavaOne, the two german winners were able to demonstrate their application to the Sun booth visitors.
